Is this a VoIP or virtual number?
No. It is a real US mobile number. Services check a line type before sending a code and refuse VoIP. Mobile is what they accept.
How line-type checks workWill it work with banks, payment apps and social media?
Most services that refuse VoIP accept a real mobile line: banks, payment apps, social networks, government sites. Nobody can promise every service, so try yours in the first month. Cancel anytime.
Can I make calls or send texts?
Calls, yes, with Cleat Full: they ring in the Cleat web app, you answer there, and you can call US numbers from your number. On Cleat Line, a call goes to voicemail and the transcript arrives like a text. No plan sends texts.
What if a service reads the code out over a phone call?
On Cleat Line, the call is transcribed and lands in your inbox like a text, with the code and the number that called. If it asks for a key press, the line presses it. Nothing rings, and you cannot listen or call back. On Cleat Full, the call rings in the app and you answer it.
Why do you need my ID?
One person per line, verified with a photo ID and a selfie. Buy first and verify when you are ready; your texts unlock then. If your ID doesn’t pass before the line first renews, that first payment is refunded in full. Prefer no selfie? A person reviews an ID-only check.
What happens if I cancel or a payment fails?
We hold your number for 30 days. Texts that arrive meanwhile are kept and unlock when you subscribe again. After that it is released.
Can my team see the texts?
Yes. Invite your whole team, free. Each person chooses how they get texts: in the app, by email or on Telegram.
How do the texts reach me?
Any mix: the inbox, email, Telegram, webhooks or the API. Teammates choose their own.
Can I choose my area code?
Not yet. Numbers are assigned from available US inventory.
Can I keep my current US number?
Yes. You can move your existing US number to Cleat from your account (Bring a number) for $25 once, on top of the plan, charged only when the number is on Cleat. Keep your current plan active until the move is done.
Can I use it from outside the US, as an expat or non-resident?
Yes. No SIM, nothing to activate from inside the US. Texts reach you anywhere you have internet. Verify with your own country’s ID.

Can I call or text 911?
No. Cleat Line cannot place calls, and Cleat Full does not call 911 or any emergency number. Keep a regular phone for emergencies.
What is Cleat not for?
Cleat is for your own accounts and your team’s. One verified person per line. Need dozens of numbers, or one nobody can trace to you? Wrong product.
Is there a mobile app?
Not in any app store. Open cleat.so/app in your phone’s browser and install it from there: it gets its own icon and can notify you when a code arrives. On iPhone, add it to your home screen first — notifications only work from there.
